Members of Teamsters 117 at Seattle Cold Storage facilites in Algona and Tacoma will be working under a different ownership group now that the company has sold two local warehouses to California-based Lineage Logistics.

News From Olympia - State Budget Update for Doc Teamsters

On Wednesday, April 3, the Washington State Senate released its 2013-2015 operating budget at a news conference in Olympia. The Senate’s version of the budget can be viewed here. Later, in the afternoon of April 3, there was a public hearing on the Senate budget proposal. (We will include a link to video of the hearing as soon as it is available on TVW.)

The Senate budget provides for $1.8 billion for corrections and other criminal justice initiatives. The proposal represents a 0.5 percent spending decrease from the 2011-2013 biennium.

DOL Certifies More Than 18,000 Former Hostess Workers as Eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance

NEWS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR:

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced that approximately 18,000 workers laid off in 48 states from 864 Hostess company locations are eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance. 


Theo Chocolate's Union-Busting Exposed

The "fair" in fair trade has a shallow meaning when it comes to Theo Chocolate, a Seattle-based chocolatier, that despite its "fair trade" certification, engaged in a vicious anti-union campaign during a Local 117 organizing drive in 2010.

Once it heard that a majority of its workers wanted to join the Teamsters, Theo hired a union-busting consulting firm, terminated a union leader, held workers in captive audience meetings that lasted up to four hours, and said that they would rather shut down the Fremont-neighborhood factory than sign a union contract.

Workers at UNFI Vote to Ratify 5-Year Contract Agreement; Strike Ends!

Early this evening, warehouse workers and drivers, represented by Teamsters Local 117, overwhelmingly voted to ratify a fully-recommended 5-year contract agreement with United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI).

The contract vote, which was held after a 3:30 p.m. meeting at the Teamsters building in Tukwila, officially ends the nine-week strike that started on December 10 at the company’s distribution center in Auburn, WA. Picket lines at the facility were taken down at approximately 5:30 p.m. this evening.
