ORGANIZING = UNION POWER
Organizing is the lifeblood of the labor movement. When we are growing as a union, we have more leverage at the bargaining table and can negotiate stronger contracts that raise standards across industries.
At Teamsters 117, our membership is growing. We recently crossed the threshold of 19,000 members. Our membership has increased in size by 9% over the last three years.
During that time, we've brought in hundreds of new members at the Department of Corrections and nearly 500 members from King County and other public safety groups. We've organized in the private sector as well, with new members at MV Transportation, Mill Rock Packaging, Mt. View Funeral Home, and Alesig.
Two weeks ago, a group of techs and field chemists at Clean Harbors marched on the boss to demand union recognition. We're hoping to welcome them as new members of Teamsters 117 in the next few weeks.
