It’s time for an update on all things Teamsters 117 at King County.

MLA/Total Comp. Negotiations

We began bargaining on July 28 as a Coalition of Unions. Negotiations kicked off with a budget presentation from Dwight Dively at the Budget Office where the impacts of the pandemic and federal assistance are still somewhat unknown.

We have been meeting with Shop Stewards on the bargaining committee over the last couple of months and continue to receive input and strategize our approach to negotiations during this tenuous time.  At our next session on September 15, the Coalition will be presenting our first full proposal to management. This proposal is informed by the voices of our membership and responsive to the current environment.

Big thanks to all who have participated in our many surveys to inform your Union and lend power at the bargaining table! Note: We will not be starting “small tables” or the individual Appendices until the scope of the “large table” or Master Labor Agreement (MLA) is clear.

JLMIC Negotiations

This bargain centers around the excellent medical, dental and vision benefits you enjoy as a King County employee that are negotiated as a Coalition. We’re happy to report the Protected Fund Reserve (PFR) is very healthy and continues to grow. Some areas of focus for the Unions center around enhancing benefits, continuing benefits after potential layoffs, and assistance with childcare for the 2021-2022 school year.

We are seeing some disappointing proposals from management here. We may need to lift up the voices of our membership in the coming days and weeks to pressure the County to make the right moves at this table. Stay tuned for possible action items!
