Just a reminder, Teamsters, that with the holidays can come not only excitement, joy, and gratitude but also mental anguish and stress. Too often mixed among the merriment are things like depression, substance abuse, domestic violence, and even suicide.

Please know that you are not alone. At a Teamster, you are part of a strong and connected team. Take the time to check in on your co-workers or lean on them or your Union Rep if you need support.

WHERE TO TURN FOR HELP

There are many other places to go for help. Mental health counseling is a good place to start. In Washington State, you can contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. You can get help by calling or texting 988 or chatting online at Lifeline Crisis Chat.

SAFE CALL NOW

At DOC, members can turn to staff psychologists (also members of Teamsters 117!) for confidential counseling services. Safe Call Now is another excellent option for our members working in corrections and law enforcement. The organization provides a confidential outlet for public safety professionals who are seeking help.

OTHER RESOURCES

There are many of other resources for members seeking support. If you find yourself in a stressful or physically threatening situation, consider using these hotlines:

  1. As a public safety employee, you can make a Safe Call Now to (206) 459-3020.
  2. In a life crisis, reach out to counselors at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1(800) 273-8255.
  3. If you don't feel safe at home, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1(800) 799-7233, or text "LOVEIS" to 22522.
  4. If you are seeking help coping with drug or alcohol addiction, call the National Drug Helpline at 1(844) 289-0879.
  5. Connect with a crisis counselor at Crisis Text Line by texting "HOME" to 741741.
  6. For a confidential Drug and Alcohol Abuse Hotline, get 24/7 assistance.

Please be sure to always look after each other, and know that if you need help, you are not alone.
