On November 22, 2014, Western Washington Taxi Cab Operators Association (WWTCOA) held its annual membership meeting. There was much excitement about electing the 2015 Leadership Council and lively discussion around the proposed amendments!

Brenda Wiest, Local 117’s Legislative Affairs Coordinator, was present to discuss the priorities for the 2015 legislative session in Olympia. Your Local will focus on L&I insurance and fighting a bill being pushed by Uber.

Dawn Gearhart provided a detailed update on insurance—with the help of Local 117’s attorney, Spencer Thal, your Local filed a lawsuit against two insurance brokers.  For more information, click here

Those in attendance voted to increase dues from $25.00 per month to $30.00 in order to allow the Union to hire another staff person as well as to provide a small stipend to Leadership Council members for their time spent in the meetings.  The increase in dues will also go to pay for the increased costs associated with the work of the WWTCOA.  You will be notified when the dues increase will go into effect.  Members in attendance also voted not to have a quorum for meetings.  Without a quorum, those at the annual meeting vote and make decisions that affect WWTCOA as a whole.  This makes it more important for you to be present for your voice to be heard!

Your new Leadership Council is: Bachitter Singh, Badanvir Singh, Aamar Khan, Sukhchain Khehra, Hassan Osman, Harpreet Singh, Bal Singh, Jaspal Singh, Mohomad Salah, and Daljinder Singh.  Your newly-elected Leadership Council will be meeting monthly, so please contact them with concerns and ideas to be brought to the group!
