The delegates to this year's Washington State Labor Council convention in SeaTac unanimously passed a resolution on Saturday opposing the privatization of the prison industry in our state.
Local 117 Shop Steward, Sgt. Michael Boe, of the Monroe Correctional Complex, spoke in favor of the resolution, highlighting the millions of dollars the Koch brothers have spent across the country in other states supporting privatization of this industry.
The resolution states that:
RESOLVED, that the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, and their affiliates...stand in opposition to the Washington State Department of Corrections engaging in any contracts with private prison companies.
