The topics below are intended to reflect only a limited sample of the representational work that is occurring at your facility.  If you have questions about specific issues, please talk to your Business Representative.

MONROE CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX
  • On October 16, a contract interpretation grievance was filed over the Department’s requirement of a doctor’s note for prescheduled sick leave.  We are in the process of scheduling a step 1 grievance meeting to discuss the issue. 
  • In mid-October, Business Representative Mark Manning brought the following three cases to a grievance review panel at MCC: 
  1. Case (1) involved relief of overtime shift after two hours while junior staff is retained on overtime.  The case will be moving to arbitration.
  2. Case (2) involved an officer on home assignment who was denied holiday pay.  The panel ruled in the Union’s favor and the member was made whole.
  3. Case (3) involved the employer denying a member the right to sign up for overtime on his “shift exchange shift off.” The panel ruled in the Union’s favor and the member was made whole. 
  • On October 24, Business Representative Mark Manning met with MCC management to bargain over the Department’s proposed changes in health services.  We will keep you posted as bargaining progresses.
  •  Your Union filed a demand to bargain over Specialized Unit staffing policies; Business Representative Mark Manning met with management over the issue on 10/15.  The Union plans to present a proposal over the issue in the coming weeks.
  • On October 25, Business Representative Manning met with the Department to discuss a proposal to put all AC Cooks on a straight 8 schedule.    
  • Business Representatives Mark Manning and Rich Groff will be bargaining with the Department over CI position abolishment on 11/4.
  • Over a dozen Teamsters phone banked on 10/8 and 10/9 in support of Sgt. Brad Waddell for Monroe City Council, Sgt Michael Boe for Lake Stevens City Council, and Kenneth Marshall for Sultan City Council. 
  • Quarterly meetings for MCC will take place in the Jimmie Evans Performance Center on December 17.  There will be a Shop Steward training also on the 17th.  Talk to your Business Representative for more information.
WASHINGTON CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Your Director of Corrections & Law Enforcement Michelle Woodrow and DOC Coordinator Sarena Davis have completed bargaining with the Department over the closed loop food service program.  Implementation of the new agreement regarding AC Cooks will begin on January 1. As a result of the negotiations all full time employees retained employment and will receive pay raises.
  • Your quarterly winter membership meetings at WCC will take place on November 22 in the Training Room at the facility.  A Shop Steward training will also be held on November 22 in the Conference Room.  Consult your Union bulletin board for more information.
  • On October 15, Representative Davis participated in an LMCC to discuss offenders performing maintenance work on the grounds.  Discussions are ongoing.
  • Representative Davis bargained with the State over the opening of a special needs unit in Cedar Hall.  Bargaining is now completed.  There will be 7 additional FTEs to implement that program.
MISSION CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER FOR WOMEN
  • Your quarterly winter membership meetings at MCCCW will take place on December 12 in the Ramirez Building at the facility.  Consult your Union bulletin boards for details.
  • A joint training for Shop Stewards at MCCCW and WCCW will be held sometime in December.  We will provide you with information as soon as it is available.
  • Your Union will be meeting with the Department to discuss Classification Counselor workloads and new programs.  
LARCH CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • On 10/8, Business Rep. Eydie Dean met with the Superintendent and successfully resolved four grievances: Two involved untimely PDPs; one involved a memo of counseling that was successfully removed; and one involved a letter of reprimand that was removed from a member’s personnel file.
  • Your winter membership meetings will be held on December 16 at the facility. A training for Shop Stewards at LCC will be held at the facility in November or December.  Talk to your Business Representative for more information.
  • An LMCC at LCC is scheduled for November 20 with all Classification Counselors to discuss evidence-based programming and two new Classification Counselor positions.
  • Your Union’s Legal Department and Director of Corrections & Law Enforcement Michelle Woodrow will be meeting in November with the 6 LCC members named in the Union’s lawsuit against the DOC.  More information will be forthcoming.
STAFFORD CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Your quarterly winter membership meetings at SCCC will take place on December 6 in Training Room.  Consult your Union bulletin boards for details.
  • A Shop Steward training will take place in the A Training room on Dec. 6.
  • Your Union filed a demand to bargain over CIS4 positions and we have completed one bargaining session with the Department.  The next round of bargaining will take place on October 31.
  • Your Union has filed a demand to bargain over the Veteran’s Pod and Safe Space.  The Department is proposing to make a living unit with veteran offenders exclusively; your Union is concerned about the safety implications of this decision. Bargaining is scheduled for November 1.

CLALLAM BAY CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Your winter membership meetings will be held on December 3 in the Visit Room at the facility.  Shop Steward Trainings will be held in the PDC Room, also on December 3.
  • On 9/25, Business Representative Davis participated in an LMCC at CBCC. Discussions involved the decommissioning of the Stentofon system, contract interpretation issues, overtime issues, bid pull violations, and polo shirts for IMU staff.       
WASHINGTON CORRECTIONS CENTER FOR WOMEN
  • Your winter membership meetings will be held on November 19 in the R Building Fitness Room at the facility. 
  • A joint training for Shop Stewards at WCCW and MCCCW will be held sometime in December.  We will provide you with information as soon as it is available.

  • Director of Corrections & Law Enforcement Michelle Woodrow met with management in an LMCC with classification counselors to discuss increased workloads and new programs.  Discussions are ongoing.
OLYMPIC CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Business Representative Sarena Davis met with management in an LMCC on October 1.  Discussions involved the two new FTEs on graveyard that will go into effect on November 1.

  • Your winter membership meetings will take place in the Visit Room on December 2.  Shop Steward Trainings will be held in the PDC Room on the same day. For details, talk to your Business Representative.
  • One grievance over improper discipline is pending. 
CEDAR CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Your quarterly winter membership meetings at CCCC will take place on December 9 in the Timberline Building at the facility.  Consult your Union bulletin boards for details.
  • A Shop Steward Training will take place also on the 9th in the Timberline Building
  • If there is a contested election for Shop Stewards, we will notify you shortly.  Please consult your Union bulletin board at the facility.
  • On 10/3, Business Representative Rich Groff met with CCCC management to negotiate over the new officer positions.  There will be 1 RDO position and 1 five-day week position starting November 1.  For details, talk to Representative Groff or your Shop Steward.
