New Local 117 Business Rep. Julie Yust meets with members at the City of Tacoma.

We want to extend a warm welcome to two new Teamsters Local 117 Business Representatives, Julie Yust and Bryon Perreira.

Both Julie and Bryon will primarily represent members working in the public sector, with Julie taking over the South Sound region, and Bryon focusing on King County and the North Sound. Bryon will also represent several private sector shops in the region as well.

Both Bryon and Julie have a strong background in labor.

Bryon Perreira, new Teamsters Local 117 Business Rep. talks with retiring Rep Evie Shannon.

Bryon was a Shop Steward and Organizer with the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) for several years. He played an important role during Southern California’s massive grocery strike in 2003-04. He worked the picket lines, delivered food to striking workers, and helped identify leaders.

Julie grew up in Bellingham and attended Washington State University where she earned a BA in Psychology. The daughter of two schoolteachers, Julie was raised in a Union household. Her parents taught her to speak up in the face of injustice.

“I’ve always been outspoken on issues that matter to me,” Julie says. “The Union gave me the ability to take action and an opportunity to be heard.”
