Drivers from Uber, UberX, Lyft, and Sidecar will kick off a $15 is Just the Beginning national day of action this Wednesday, April 15 with a 2 P.M. rally in Occidental Park followed by a march to Uber Headquarters in Pioneer Square (506 2nd Ave.) Drivers will be joined by workers, students, faith leaders, elected officials, and community supporters as they call on Uber to change its business practices that organizers say exploit its mostly immigrant workforce and put drivers on a path to poverty.

“As independent contractors, we’re not covered under Seattle’s new minimum wage law. Most of us can’t even afford the basics – paying the rent and putting food on the table for our families,” said Hussein Farah, who has driven for Uber for over a year. “We need fair treatment, dignity, and a voice at work.”

This action follows months of organizing by the App-Based Drivers Association (ABDA), an organization working with Teamsters Local 117 to raise standards in Seattle’s personal transportation industry. ABDA’s priorities includes promoting public and driver safety, ensuring fair pay and an equitable rating system, and providing drivers with legal assistance with insurance and deactivation issues.
