Teamsters rally for a fair contract at Elysian Brewery on September 28.
Workers at Elysian Brewery will take a critical strike authorization vote this Saturday, October 12 after an update meeting at 12 p.m. at our Union Hall in Tukwila.
“We’re not going to let corporate bigwigs at AB InBev continue to drag their feet in negotiations and treat Elysian workers like they don’t matter,” said Paul Dascher, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 117. “By authorizing a strike, these workers will send a powerful message of solidarity not just to the company but to Teamsters brewery workers across the country who are preparing to stand with them in their fight for a fair contract.”
Workers at Elysian Brewing have grown increasingly frustrated with the company stalling negotiations and refusing to bargain fairly. On Saturday, September 28, Teamsters and their community allies rallied in support of the workers in front of the Elysian Taproom in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood. After the rally, workers distributed leaflets at Elysian locations in Pioneer Square and on Capitol Hill to inform the public of the company’s union-busting tactics.
The Teamsters International Union represents thousands of AB InBev workers at breweries for Budweiser, Michelob, Busch, and other larger, well-known brands. Union members there receive regular pay raises, employer-sponsored healthcare and retirement plans, protection from unjust termination, and other benefits that microbrewery workers at Elysian are fighting for.
