Union Coalition Negotiations Committee - Teamsters at Swire Coca Cola.
The following is a negotiations update for Teamsters at Swire Coca-Cola:
Last week, our Union Negotiations Committee met for five full days with your employer to negotiate over a new successor collective bargaining agreement that will govern your wages, hours, and working conditions into the future. Negotiations were held on April 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25 in Tukwila.
We are bargaining as a powerful Coalition of Teamsters Locals representing workers at Swire in all unionized classifications across western Washington. Local Unions participating at the bargaining table are Teamsters Locals 38, 117, 174, 313, and 589. Our Committee consists of 33 experienced Teamsters - rank-and-file members, Business Representatives, and Union Leadership. The Coalition is negotiating a total of seven contracts.
UNITED FOR STRONG CONTRACTS
The goal of our Union Committee is to negotiate the strongest possible contracts for all Teamsters at Swire. We are demanding that the company provide contracts with livable wages, good benefits, fair working conditions, and ones that address the concerns you and your co-workers identified in your contract surveys and at our demands meetings.
Last week, we made some progress toward achieving that goal. We exchanged proposals with the company and reached tentative agreements on some items but still have dozens of open issues. Most of the discussion focused on the language provisions of our contracts. While we did touch on economics, we will be reserving the bulk of the work around your compensation in upcoming negotiations sessions.
STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE - MAY 10
We have negotiations scheduled for the week of May 5 through May 9 and for May 13, 14, and 15. We do not intend to negotiate with the company beyond the expiration of our contracts. We will be holding a Contract Update Meeting and Strike Authorization Vote on Saturday, May 10 at 12 noon for all members represented by the Coalition. It is critically important that you prioritize that meeting and make every effort to attend.
NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE MEETING - STRIKE AUTHORIZATION VOTE
Saturday, May 10 at 12 noon
Teamsters Union Hall in Tukwila
All five Local Unions are standing strong in support of each other's issues, and we expect all members to do the same. Our solidarity and willingness to take direct action if needed will be key in ensuring we achieve strong contracts that recognize the hard work and contribution of all Teamsters at Swire.
Please speak with a member of your Union Negotiations Committee if you have questions.
