Two officers, members of Teamsters 117, were assaulted yesterday by an inmate in the library of the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla.  The officers were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for injuries sustained in the attack, and then released.

The West Complex at the facility, where the attack occurred, is currently on restrictive movement.

The case is still under investigation.  As details emerge, we will share them here.  Once again, this incident, along with the assault on staff last week at the Clallam Bay Corrections Center, are a solemn reminder of how difficult and dangerous the work is of our state's correctional employees.

We can't thank them enough for the tremendous job they do every day in keeping our communities safe.
