Ferry-Food---Thumb2.jpgThe jobs of Teamster Local 117 members who work in the warehouse that serves food products to the Washington State ferry system could be at risk.

Their employer, Olympic Cascade Services, Inc., recently lost a state contract to provide concessions on five regional ferry routes.

Olympic Cascade is a local, family-owned business that has been operating in our area for eleven years. The contract was awarded to Centerplate, an out-of-state, multinational corporation.

Lauren Marshall, a Teamster who works for Olympic, is concerned that the change in contracts could impact his job. “Olympic is a good, family business. I don’t know if Centerplate is going to go union,” he said.

Olympic Cascade has engaged its employees, legislators, and the community to urge the Governor to Keep Ferry Food Local. They recently delivered a petition with over 12,000 signatures to the Governor’s Office.
