John joined the Teamsters in 1992 working as an order selector in the grocery industry. Recognized as a natural leader in his workplace and a fierce defender of workers’ rights, John became a Union Representative in 2006. Four years later, John was appointed to the President position by our union’s Executive Board. He became the principal officer of Teamsters 117 in 2015 and was re-elected by a vote of the membership in 2016. John was recognized for his leadership by the Martin Luther King Central Labor Council as the only Teamsters official nominated for “Best Principle Officer”, an award he was honored to receive in 2017. John has negotiated some of the strongest contracts in the country and is known for always holding management accountable when they violate workers’ rights.
