The labor movement is ablaze with new energy, and young workers are leading the way. In the last two years, there's been a surge of petitions for Union representation, many from workplaces with high concentrations of Gen Z and Millennial activists demanding better conditions and a voice.
Whether Starbucks baristas, grad students, Amazon warehousers, REI retailers, tech workers, or otherwise, young workers are getting organized and adding flare and drip to unions again. It's no wonder approval of unions has risen to around 68%, the highest the labor movement has seen in 50 years.
Right here at Teamsters 117, workers from the Elysian Brewery, Seattle Humane, and Woodland Park Zoo - all groups with tons of Gen Z and Millennial folks - have taken on the boss and won their Union elections.
