AIRWAY HEIGHTS CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Holiday Membership Meetings at AHCC were held on 11/15 with 123 members in attendance.  At the meetings, we discussed recent arbitration wins, health care bargaining; a legislative update; interest arbitration; and our upcoming Lobby Day on 1/28; Business Representatives Tawny Humbert, Greg Senderhauf, and Eydie Dean facilitated the meetings.
  • Representative Humbert worked with DOC labor relations and local Human Resources to successfully resolve an issue involving the 5 new positions awarded by the State Legislature.  Bids for the positions had been pulled incorrectly.  The DOC agreed to pull the bids in a proper manner and award them appropriately.
  • On 11/15, training was held for Shop Stewards at AHCC.  Nine Shop Stewards attended.  The training was facilitated by Leonard Smith, your Union’s Director or Organizing, Michelle Woodrow, your Union’s Director of Corrections and Law Enforcement, and Dustin Lambro, your Union’s Political Action Coordinator.  Topics included representation, grievance handling, member mobilization, and your union’s legislative and legal programs.
  • There will be several Step 1 grievance hearings involving various issues at the facility this month.   Updates for these meetings will be forthcoming.
  • We are actively recruiting members to attend a DOC Teamsters Lobby Day on Jan 28.  To sign up, talk to Representative Humbert.
  • We are working to address an issue involving the DOC denying members in CI positions from bidding into DOC positions.  Stay posted for more information.
  • We have issued a statewide demand to bargain over DOC moving to a Regionalized Pharmacy system (one on the east side and one on the west side).  We will be bargaining over changes that will impact pharmacy, nursing, and possibly custody staff at AHCC and several other facilities across the state. 
COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Teamsters partnered with the Employee Betterment Association to split the cost of the Thanksgiving dinner that was served during all shifts on 11/28.  Thank you to all members who sacrificed time with your family to serve and protect our community this Thanksgiving!
  • At the holiday meeting, we discussed our recent win involving life-giving procedures.  Members are eligible to take 5 days off in two years to give blood per the contract and the Department had been denying the leave.  You are not required to take vacation or sick leave if you plan to take time off to give blood as the Department is required to authorize  administrative leave for blood donation.
  • We are currently in negotiations over the Roster Management Policy.  An update will be forthcoming. 
  • We successfully overturned a termination at CRCC over a disciplinary issue at a Step 1 grievance meeting held last month.
  • We will be scheduling an LMCC for the Veterans program at CRCC.  As soon as we have a date for the meeting, we will let you know.
  • There was a training held for Shop Stewards at CRCC on 11/12.  8 Shop Stewards attended the training. The training was facilitated by Leonard Smith, your Union’s Director or Organizing, Michelle Woodrow, your Union’s Director of Corrections and Law Enforcement, and Dustin Lambro, you Union’s Political Action Coordinator.  Topics included representation, grievance handling, member mobilization, and your Union’s legislative and legal programs.
  • A Lobby Day for Teamsters at the DOC will be held on 1/28/14.  If you are interested in attending, please contact Business Representative Eydie Dean.
  • Holiday Membership Meetings at CRCC were held on 11/12 with 347 members in attendance.  At the meetings, we discussed recent arbitration wins, health care bargaining, a legislative update, interest arbitration, and our upcoming Lobby Day on 1/28.
 WASHINGTON STATE PENITENTIARY
  • Our Holiday Membership Meetings at WSP were held on 11/13.  369 members attended throughout the day.   At the meeting, we discussed the results of health care bargaining, statewide grievances and arbitration wins, our priorities for the upcoming legislative session in Olympia, and next year’s contract negotiations.
  • A training for WSP Shop Stewards was held on 11/13. 15 WSP Shop Stewards attended. The training was facilitated by Leonard Smith, your Union’s Director or Organizing,  Michelle Woodrow, your Union’s Director of Corrections and Law Enforcement, and Dustin Lambro, you Union’s Political Action Coordinator..  Topics included general representation, grievance handling, member mobilization, and your union’s legislative and legal programs.
  • There is a Lobby Day for Teamsters at the DOC scheduled for Jan 2.  Nine members at WSP have signed up so far.  If you would like to attend, please contact Business Representative Greg Senderhauf.
  • An orientation meeting for New Initiates was held on 11/20.  26 new members attended the meeting.  All members who attend will receive a partial rebate of their initiation fee.
  • On 12/10, we held our monthly Shop Stewards meeting to discuss concerns and issues at the facility.
  • On 10/29, your Union filed a grievance over restoration of leave.  A Step 1 Grievance Hearing occurred on 12/4.
  • We have a Step 1 hearing scheduled for 12/18 to discuss a disciplinary grievance.
  • We are in the process of investigating potential grievances involving a disciplinary issue and an issue involving leave scheduling for nurses.
