The topics below are intended to reflect only a limited sample of the representational work that is occurring at your facility.  If you have questions about specific issues, please talk to your Business Representative.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • On April 28, your Union’s Political Department held its Spokane County PAC meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn/ Spokane Airport.  This was an opportunity to assist in planning our political program for the coming year.
  • On April 2-3, Representative Humbert met with staff on several occasions in the SOTP area at AHCC.
  • Representative Humbert filed a grievance on April 2 regarding improper BID denials for classification staff.  
  • Representative Humbert met with the majority of Shop Stewards on April 7 for their monthly Steward meeting.
  • There will be several Step 1 grievance hearings involving various issues at the facility this month.   Updates for these meetings will be forthcoming.
  • Representative Humbert met for a pre-arbitration hearing on April 21 regarding a two week suspension case.
  • DOC contract negotiations began in Tukwila on April 22 and 23.  Business Representative Humbert as well as Shop Stewards Sandra Conner will represent AHCC members in bargaining along with the rest of your Union’s bargaining committee.
  • Representative Humbert will be attending a Statewide Demand to Bargain regarding Classification Counselors working out of job class.
  • On March 6, your Union completed its first bargaining session over the State’s move to a centralized pharmacy system.  The bargaining was primarily informational.  We have another session tentatively scheduled for May 15.
COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • On April 30, your Union’s Political Department heldits Tri-Cities PAC meeting at the Red Lion in Pasco.  This was an  opportunity to assist in planning our political program for the coming year. There was wonderful participation with 39 members from CRCC in attendance.
  • DOC contract negotiations began in Tukwila on April 22 and 23.  Business Representative Dean as well as Shop Stewards Corey McCloud and Levi Dean will represent CRCC members in bargaining along with the rest of your Union’s bargaining committee.
  • On April 3, Representative Dean met with management in an LMCC over the close loop food service program in the kitchen.  Negotiations over the issue will begin in the next couple of months.
  • On April 10, CRCC Shop Steward Levi Dean attended a meeting with Governor Inslee to discuss the moratorium on the death penalty.
  • On April 9, Representative Dean attended Grievance Resolution Panel at MCC.  
 WASHINGTON STATE PENITENTIARY
  • On April 30, we will held our Walla Walla PAC meeting at Smith’s Family Restaurant.  This was an  opportunity to assist in planning our political program for the coming year.
  • A number of pre-disciplinary investigations are ongoing at the facility.  One of them was resolved after allegations were shown to be unsubstantiated.
  • On March 6, we had our first session of bargaining over the State’s move to centralized pharmacy system.  The bargaining was primarily informational.  We have another session tentatively scheduled for May 15.
  • On March 14, we facilitated a CORE class for new members at WSP, AHCC, and CRCC.
  • On March 26, your Union held its grievance panel at WSP.  Two grievances were heard at panel:  The first involved issues related with to nurse staffing levels.  The second grievance involved the restoration of leave. 
  • On April 17, Representative Humbert and Shop Steward Colman toured the facility with Don Cohen.  Cohen is the Director of In the Public Interest, an organization that opposes the privatization of the nation’s prison system.
  • DOC contract negotiations began in Tukwila on April 22 and 23.  Business Representative Dean and Humbert as well as Shop Stewards Eric Burt and Paul Moore will represent WSP members in bargaining along with the rest of your Union’s bargaining committee.
  • On April 17 and April 30, Director of Corrections and Law Enforcement Woodrow, Representative Dean and Representative Humbert met with the Shop Stewards to discuss new Local 117 coverage of the facility.  Representative Eydie Dean will cover WSP members whose physical work location is in the East Complex, plus engineering, maintenance, warehouse, and CI.  Representative Humbert will cover WSP members whose physical work location is in the West/South Complex. 
  • On April 18, your Union engaged in negotiations over the opening of the Williams unit and the impact it will have on health services..  Look for updates on this issue in the future.
