Earlier this month, we requested formal notification in writing from the Department of its intention to eliminate assignment pay. The Department has refused to provide that notice.
In our grievance over the issue, which was filed on July 13, we requested that we expedite the process by moving the grievance to arbitration immediately. The DOC denied that request as well.
Last Friday was the deadline for the DOC to provide us information related to the grievance. The Department failed to provide the information in a timely manner.
By failing to comply with our requests, the Department is delaying a resolution of this issue and creating greater uncertainty for its employees.
This is unfortunate, but it does not change the fact that we will exercise our right under the arbitrator’s award to challenge the Department’s decision with respect to assignment pay and ensure full compliance with the terms of the award.
