This week, you granted me the honor of continuing to serve as your Secretary-Treasurer for the next three years. And for that, I am humbled, and grateful.

Thousands of Local 117 members cast a ballot in our Union’s election over the past month. Thank you to all of you who took part in our Union’s democratic process. Your participation makes our Union strong.

Whether you voted for the Scearcy Unity Slate, or my opponents, my promise to you is the same. In this position, I will work every day to maintain a team that is honest, reliable, and that listens to you. We will earn your trust.

"My commitment is to put members first. To listen to you, and put your needs at the center of everything we do."

I understand this election has created division. But I also know we are strong, and we will maintain a focus on moving forward as one, united, organization.

Employers will try to take advantage of our division, but they will fail. There is more that unites us, than divides us. We will continue fighting to improve the lives of our families. As we have proven time and time again, nothing can break our solidarity as long we are committed to each other.

Now is the time for us to come together and build a better future for all members of Teamsters 117. Together we will build a stronger Union that fights for good contracts and builds worker power.

I have witnessed our Union’s tremendous growth over the years. Conversation after conversation has made it clear that you want a Union that engages you. You want a Union that empowers you in your workplace.

My commitment is to put members first. To listen to you, and put your needs at the center of everything we do. I will work to make Local 117 open and transparent to the membership. This is your Union.

As the newly-elected Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters 117, I am deeply honored and humbled to serve the members of our great Union. As I look toward the next three years, I am reminded of this quote: “I can’t promise to solve all your problems, but I can promise you won’t have to face them alone.”

Our power is our unity. I cannot promise to solve every challenge we face. But I can promise to stand with you and face them together, in good times, and bad.

In Solidarity,

John Scearcy
