On this Labor Day, we will be holding a press conference with allies and partners who support making sure we keep groceries affordable in Washington State. Please come join us and show your support!
Initiative 1634, which will be on the November general election ballot, would prohibit municipalities from taxing groceries you'd buy in the store (like soda or sugar-sweetened beverages). Although there is no state sales tax on groceries, there is a loophole that makes it permissible for municipalities to do their own tax; this initiative fixes that loophole.
Teamsters 117 represents more than 3,000 hard-working men and women in the grocery and food-service industries, and we want to make sure we stop taxes that will erode these good-paying jobs with Teamster benefits.
We hope you can join us!
