We had a great meeting this weekend with our newly-formed Teamsters Veterans Caucus.
Members from a wide variety of industries participated, including grocery, dairy, cold storage, King County, and DOC.
We kicked off the meeting with a presentation from the Metropolitan Credit Union on VA home loans.
Members brought lots of good ideas about how we can support veterans in our region. We also discussed developing a leadership structure and caucus bylaws.
Moving ahead, we plan to have strong visibility at our upcoming Teamsters Car Show event on June 18. We'll be selling our new T-Shirts, holding a raffle, and providing more information about the caucus.
We plan to send a delegation to the Stand with Those Who Serve event at Joint Base Lewis-McCord on July 23.
Our next meeting will take place on Sunday, July 17 at 10 am. Thanks to everyone who showed up and is helping to build a stronger voice for veterans at our Union!
Local 117 veterans will be gathering together for the founding meeting of our new Teamsters Veterans Caucus.
We'll be discussing a range of issues impacting veterans in our community and the role we can play as union members to support them.
The meeting will take place on Saturday, April 2 here at the Union hall in Tukwila starting at 9 a.m.

Local 117’s member-driven caucuses have big plans for 2016. Two of the five groups met on Saturday, February 20 to organize upcoming events.
Tickets are $50. All Teamsters, family members, and the general public are welcome to attend.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the fight against diabetes and heart disease.
Meanwhile, our Comite Latino caucus is planning our participation in the annual International Workers Day march on May 1 as well as our Local 117 Soccer Tournament in August.
