Today we received Arbitrator Joseph Duffy’s award outlining DOC Teamsters compensation for the 2021-2023 biennium. The award demonstrates, once again, our collective power of having secured interest arbitration rights as a union and is a tribute to the outstanding work of our negotiation committee.

The award contains pay increases for all members of the bargaining unit in the form of a general wage increase of 4% effective July 1, 2022, and a one-time bonus of $1500 on July 1, 2022, for all classifications.

In addition, the Arbitrator has awarded the following range increases, which will also take effect July 1, 2022:

OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE NEW CONTRACT

  • McNeil Island Premium Pay of $10 per day
  • Time spent going through security screening is now compensable time.
  • Overtime exempt employees who have maxed out their exchange time can be approved to earn straight time pay for hours worked in excess of forty-five hours in a workweek.
  • Juneteenth as a paid holiday.

NEXT STEPS

The award will be sent to the Legislature, which will have the final say about whether to fund the increases. Ensuring that our contract is fully funded will take members talking to their representatives about the current staffing shortages and the extraordinary challenges you have faced throughout the pandemic to maintain the health and safety of DOC staff and the incarcerated population.

Thank you again to our union negotiation committee that worked so hard to help achieve this award. They deserve enormous praise for their commitment, diligence, and professionalism.
