WWTCOA OVERVIEW - TAXI DRIVERS BUILDING POWER
Hundreds of Puget Sound taxi drivers at four companies – Farwest, Orange, Stita, and Yellow – have joined a new association to build power and gain a voice in the workplace - the Western Washington Taxi Cab Operators Association (WWTCOA).
The WWTCOA aims to educate the public about the essential service that taxi drivers provide to our communities, and it recognizes the drivers’ role in supporting a tourist industry that brings millions of dollars into the greater-Seattle area each year.
With the support of the Teamsters, members of the WWTCOA have joined together to combat the rigged system that pits driver against driver, creates hazardous working conditions, and funnels thousands of dollars a month out of the pockets of hardworking cab operators.
The WWTCOA has eight objectives:
Build power for Puget Sound taxi drivers! Join the WWTCOA by contacting Teamsters Local 117 Business Representative Dawn Gearhart at 206-441-4860 ext. 1254 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or fill out a membership application and dues withdrawal form and mail the documents to: Attn: Dawn Gearhart, 14675 Interurban Ave. S. Tukwila, WA 98168.
The Western Washington Taxi Cab Operators Association (WWTCOA) Leadership Council had its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Taxi drivers elected the following members to the council:
