Approximately 60 DOC members attended the event.  Topics for discussion with legislators included a PSERS bill (HB1923) that would provide greater retirement security for DOC medical staff; request for funding to address prison overcrowding; advocacy for a bill that would allow our taxi members to opt in to the State’s L&I program and for a statewide paid sick leave bill.
  • Another bargaining session for Specialized Units Staffing Policy demand to bargain occurred on Monday, January 27.  Director Michelle Woodrow, Representative Manning, and Shop Stewards, Dave Roberts, Lance Rogers, and Shane Zey comprise the Union’s bargaining committee for this bargaining.
  • A demand to bargain is being filed over the DOC apparently seeking to reallocate a Psychologist 4 position down to a Psychologist 3 position.  The members working in this classification are carrying huge workloads and any reduction in this work group’s numbers would increase their workload dramatically.  Recent Salary Surveys have also shown that the DOC Psychologists are underpaid.  More to come as we set dates for bargain.
  • MCC has a Pharmacy staff that is facing impact as the DOC has determined to regionalize the State’s Pharmacy and consolidate the work into one Statewide location on the I-5 corridor.  The Union has issued a demand to bargain over this matter and have just set a starting date of Thursday, March 6.  A bargaining committee with members who work in these areas will be put together to be part of these negotiations.
