MONROE CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX

  • Our Teamsters Lobby Day was held on January 28, 2014. Approximately 60 DOC members attended the event.  Topics for discussion with legislators included a PSERS bill (HB1923) that would provide greater retirement security for DOC medical staff; request for funding to address prison overcrowding; advocacy for a bill that would allow our taxi members to opt in to the State’s L&I program and for a statewide paid sick leave bill.
  • Another bargaining session for Specialized Units Staffing Policy demand to bargain occurred on Monday, January 27.  Director Michelle Woodrow, Representative Manning, and Shop Stewards, Dave Roberts, Lance Rogers, and Shane Zey comprise the Union’s bargaining committee for this bargaining.
  • A demand to bargain is being filed over the DOC apparently seeking to reallocate a Psychologist 4 position down to a Psychologist 3 position.  The members working in this classification are carrying huge workloads and any reduction in this work group’s numbers would increase their workload dramatically.  Recent Salary Surveys have also shown that the DOC Psychologists are underpaid.  More to come as we set dates for bargain.
  • MCC has a Pharmacy staff that is facing impact as the DOC has determined to regionalize the State’s Pharmacy and consolidate the work into one Statewide location on the I-5 corridor.  The Union has issued a demand to bargain over this matter and have just set a starting date of Thursday, March 6.  A bargaining committee with members who work in these areas will be put together to be part of these negotiations.
WASHINGTON CORRECTIONS CENTER

  • We are working to schedule a meeting with Superintendent Russell and all of the sergeants to discuss workload and scheduling issues.
  • On 1/15, there was a statewide demand to bargain meeting to discuss the use of polo shirts for members in IMU.
  • We have issued a statewide demand to bargain over DOC moving to a Regionalized Pharmacy system.  Bargaining is scheduled to begin over this issue in March.
MISSION CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER FOR WOMEN

  • We held a joint training for WCCW and MCCCW Shop Stewards on January 10.  The training took place at WCCW and covered a variety of topics.
LARCH CORRECTIONS CENTER

STAFFORD CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER

CLALLAM BAY CORRECTIONS CENTER

  • A new paging system has been installed at the facility.  We are not aware of any issues with the new system.
  • We are working to schedule an LMCC to discuss general issues at the facility.

  • On 1/8, we facilitated a CORE presentation at WCCW.
OLYMPIC CORRECTIONS CENTER

  • During the OCC holiday meeting in December, we learned that officers had been disseminating store. We spoke with the Department about the issue, and they agreed that warehouse workers - not officers – will be distributing store moving forward.
CEDAR CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER

  • Incumbent Shop Stewards returning after election are Jessica Anderson, Mark Keller, and Dan Johnson. Congratulations to newly-elected Shop Steward, James Erwick.
  • We have filed a demand to bargain and we are in negotiations over the elimination of an offsite Crew Officer position.
  • We achieved resolution over an ADA issue that failed to return an employee to prior pay step before reasonable accommodation.  This grievance resulted in significant back pay to the employee.
  • We achieved resolution over several grievances involving the Department’s failure to correctly offer and award bid posts.
  • Recent remedy granted on grievance over staffing of the mailroom.  Officers are not required to work the mailroom OAS position any longer.
  • We achieved a recent settlement on a termination grievance.  The settlement offer was one of the highest back pay awards in DOC history.
