This year, legislators in Olympia were unable to wrap up their business by the end of the regular 2013 legislative session, and the Governor called them back to Olympia for a special 30-day session to complete a state budget for the next two years.

In addition to the state budget, one critical piece of legislation important to Local 117 members that legislators are debating is HB 1954, a bill that would give local communities additional tools and options to ensure maintenance of our existing roads and transit levels.

We all know local communities are falling behind in maintaining and upkeep of our roads and transit and this bill would give communities the opportunity to decide whether to have increased revenue to fix and maintain them.

Time is running out in the special session, and legislators need to hear from us about why this is important.

CALL NOW! Please call your legislators today on the toll-free legislative hotline at 1-800-562-6000 and encourage them to pass HB 1954, to give local communities additional tools to ensure maintenance of our roads.
