Over the last week, there have been several news stories, including one on Tuesday in the Seattle Times, referencing the new contract that the DOC has signed with the private prison GEO group and suggesting the possibility that inmates could be transferred out-of-state, to a GEO facility in Michigan.

While DOC Secretary Bernie Warner has stated in the media that the DOC has no operational plan to transfer inmates at this time, the fact remains that a contract with GEO is now in place.

To ensure that your rights under the contract are protected, Michelle Woodrow, your Union's President & Director of Corrections & Law Enforcement, sent a letter yesterday to Warner asserting our right to bargain over any plan to transfer inmates out-of-state.
