STATE CORRECTIONAL EMPLOYEES: PRISONS STILL UNSAFE
KUOW has produced a feature piece, in which Sergeant Michael Boe, a Local 117 Shop Steward at Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC), discusses staff safety issues at the Department of Corrections (DOC) and the need for the Washington State Legislature to pass interest arbitration legislation.
“On midnights, there are 125 inmates to one officer. There are people that will tell you that the only reason we’re in control that we get the keys is that the inmates allow it. There’s some truth to that,“ Sgt. Boe is quoted in the report.
The piece aired on Friday, January 25. View the entire KUOW report here.
