Members of Local 117 at US Foods in Fife honored a picket line on Friday morning that was established earlier in the week by striking Teamsters in Illinois.
Since Sunday, maintenance workers in Illinois have been on an Unfair Labor Practice strike at US Foods in response to the company’s retaliation against workers and its refusal to bargain in good faith.
The Union had notified the company on Tuesday that it intended to exercise its contractual right to observe the lawful, primary picket line in 72 hours as is provided in the workers’ contract.
When the drivers and warehouse workers at the Fife facility arrived to work early this morning, they informed their employer of their intent to honor the picket line. 107 members of Local 117 are employed at the facility.
"We are standing strong in solidarity with our Brothers and Sisters in Illinois who are fighting for a fair contract," said Shop Steward and Steward Advisory Council member, John Peterson.
Extended picket lines have also been established at US Foods locations in Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Indiana, Minnesota, Colorado and a number of other locations. The Teamsters represent approximately 4,000 employees at 24 US Foods distribution centers across the nation.
