On Saturday, July 30, hundreds of Teamsters at 3 of the area’s major grocery houses – Safeway, SuperValu, and Unified Grocers – voted in overwhelming numbers to ratify new, 3-year labor agreements.
Congratulations to all of the Teamsters in the grocery industry on achieving this victory!
Your Union would not have been successful in achieving this agreement without your strong support during negotiations and the incredible work, dedication and unity of your Union Bargaining Committee.
Your newly-ratified contract takes effect immediately. Wages and other economic gains reflected in the contract will be applied retroactively as of July 10. The new agreement will expire on July 12, 2014.
A printed version of your contract will be available through your Business Representative as soon as the final documents are prepared. If you have questions about your new agreement, please talk to your Business Representative.
Even though these agreements are officially ratified and bargaining with Safeway, SuperValu, and Unified Grocers is now complete, it is important to bear in mind that your Union is still bargaining with Fred Meyer over a labor agreement affecting nearly 400 Teamsters in the grocery industry.
On Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7, Teamsters at Fred Meyer will take a critical strike authorization vote. Your Union will be bargaining again with the Company on August 15. After that meeting, you may be called on to show your solidarity for Teamsters at Fred Meyer by participating in direct actions.
Your unwavering support of your Brothers and Sisters at Fred Meyer will be critical to ensuring that fair and equitable industry standards are maintained.
Thank you for the incredible work you do to feed Washington’s families and for your strong support during negotiations!
Your Union Bargaining Committee
