Tomorrow is an exciting day – it’s our DOC Lobby Day.

Over 200 Teamsters 117 members and staff supporting their brothers and sisters who work at DOC will be in Olympia talking with legislators about the critical issues facing our state’s correctional employees.

Our number one priority in tomorrow’s meetings will be to urge legislators to pass HB 2507 and SB 6286, bills that extend assault benefits for DOC employees. You can read more about our Assault Benefits bills and all of the issues we will be discussing with legislators here.

After our meetings, we will attend an important hearing on the House version of our bill (HB 2507) before the General Government and Information Technology committee at 3:30 P.M. where members will testify in support of the bill.

Our DOC Lobby Day is an excellent way for legislators to hear directly from us about the issues that matter most. But it’s important that legislators hear from all of us – not just those who are able to attend the event.

Here’s what you can do right now to stay involved and make a difference:

  1. Call the Legislative Hotline in Olympia at 1.800.562.6000 and tell your legislators to extend assault benefits for correctional employees by passing both HB 2507 and SB 6286. Tell them that no one who is assaulted at work while serving to protect our communities should have their benefits cut off because they are physically unable to return to work.
  2. For updates throughout the day on January 26 follow us on Twitter at @teamsters117 under #DOCLobbyDay.
  3. Check in at our website at www.Teamsters117.org for our Report from Olympia and an update on Lobby Day and share it on social media.

Thank you for the incredibly important work you do in serving and protecting our communities. Please stay safe.

In Solidarity,

John Scearcy
