The topics below are intended to reflect only a limited sample of the representational work that is occurring at your facility.  If you have questions about specific issues, please talk to your Business Representative.

AIRWAY HEIGHTS CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • Contract surveys were mailed out on January 17.  We will be working with the Shop Stewards to ensure that as many members as possible turn in their completed surveys. The deadline for returning surveys is February 3.
  • We are having our contract demands meetings at AHCC on Thursday, February 6.  Your participation in these meetings is important!  Please check your bulletin board for exact times and locations.
  • Our Teamsters Lobby Day was held on January 28, 2014. Approximately 60 DOC members attended the event.  Topics for discussion with legislators included a PSERS bill (HB1923) that would provide greater retirement security for DOC medical staff; request for funding to address prison overcrowding; advocacy for a bill that would allow our taxi members to opt in to the State’s L&I program and for a statewide paid sick leave bill.
  • There will be a Grievance Resolution Panel for the AHCC, WSP and CRCC this month. Several cases will be presented by Business Representative Humbert.
  • Representative Humbert will be meeting with the majority of AHCC Shop Stewards this month.
  • There will be several Step 1 grievance hearings involving various issues at the facility this month. Updates for these meetings will be forthcoming.
  • A grievance has been filed for management failing to conduct a fair and thorough investigation before issuing discipline.
  • Representative Humbert met with the majority of kitchen staff for a detailed meeting regarding contract violations.
COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER

  • On 12/7, we filed a grievance for an on-call member who was denied his use of shared leave.
  • On 1/8, we had PARM involving a disciplinary termination.
  • We had an LMCC on January 14 to discuss the Veteran’s Program at CRCC.
  • Representative Dean attended a Grievance Resolution Panel at AHCC on January 21 and 22.
  • We had statewide roster management negotiations on January 23.  Negotiations were held at OFM in Olympia

  • We are working on an issue with the CRCC Maintenance Department to ensure that members are appropriately completing their voluntary overtime signup sheets.
  • We are working on staffing issues in the Mail Room and the Records Department.
  • At the general holiday membership meeting held at the Union hall in Tukwila on December 19, a DOC member at CRCC won a television in the raffle drawing.
 WASHINGTON STATE PENITENTIARY

  • In December, the Local 117 Executive Board authorized membership assistance for four members at WSP who are experiencing personal hardship.
  • On 12/18, we held a grievance hearing involving a disciplinary issue.  We are waiting for the Step 1 response.
  • We received a response from the Department on a Step 1 grievance hearing involving restoration of leave that was not satisfactory.  The grievance has been moved to the Step 2 grievance panel.
  • On 1/9, we had a disciplinary grievance hearing.
  • There was a pending issue involving leave scheduling for nurses that has now been resolved.
  • We are working on a reasonable accommodation for a member with a disability.
  • We will be holding monthly meetings with Shop Stewards to discuss issues at the facility.  At the January meeting, one of the primary topics will be investigations in pre-disciplinary hearings.
  • We will be scheduling two labor management meetings this month – a general meeting and a meeting for health services.  Those meetings will likely be held in late January or sometime in February.
