AIRWAY HEIGHTS CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • We had a successful DOC summer BBQ event at AHCC on August 11 from 10-4pm at the AHCC main campus.  Approximately 250 members attended.
  • In conjunction with upcoming contract negotiations , we will be voting for all new Shop Steward positions in October.  Look for the posting on your Union bulletin board.
  • On September 17, we filed a grievance related to an improper letter of reprimand.
  • With the help of our Shop Stewards, we were able to resolve several issues informally at the facility in August and September.
  • Business Representative Humbert was at the facility from September 21 to September 23 to address a variety of member concerns.
  • Business Representative Humbert attended the Spokane Labor Council meeting on September 22 to discuss local labor issues impacting members at AHCC.
  • On September 21, we held a statewide LMCC to discuss issues related to the newly-organized group of DOC Dentists.
  • Our Step 1 grievance meeting over the 5% recruitment and retention pay took place on August 3 in Olympia.  Shop Steward Michael Boe and Sgt. Corey Laughlin participated in the meeting.
  • On September 21, we held a statewide LMCC to discuss issues related to the newly-organized group of DOC Dentists.
COYOTE RIDGE CORRECTIONS CENTER
  • In conjunction with upcoming contract negotiations, we will be voting for all new Shop Steward positions in October.  Look for the posting on your Union bulletin board.
  • We held our DOC summer BBQ at CRCC on August 12 from 10-4pm at the MSU Old Training Center.  Approximately 170 members attended the event.  On the day of the event, Shop Steward Scott Williams took Representative Haler on a tour of the facility.
  • On August 31, Business Representative Eydie Dean met with evidence-based programming classification counselors regarding reallocation.  Negotiations over that issue will take place on October 26 at WSP.
  • On October 8, we will be holding an LMCC to discuss issues involving members in health services.
  • On September 21, we held a statewide LMCC to discuss issues related to the newly-organized group of DOC Dentists.
  • Our Step 1 grievance meeting over the 5% recruitment and retention pay took place on August 3 in Olympia.  Shop Steward  Michael Boe and Sgt. Corey Laughlin participated in the meeting. 
 WASHINGTON STATE PENITENTIARY
  • One September 18, there was a Medal of Honor ceremony in memory of three fallen officers at WSP.  Your Local Union contributed to cover some of the costs of the event.
  • There were two major incidents at WSP recently; the first incident took place on August 24 and the second incident occurred on August 31.  Staff handled these large-scale incidents in the most professional manner possible.  The West Complex was on lockdown for much of the end of August and first half of September.  Please remember to stay safe!
  • On August 20, we filed a demand to bargain at WSP over the IMU north warm closure.  We were scheduled to meet with the Department on September 10; however, the DOC sent us a rescission letter requesting a postponement.  We are now in the process of selecting dates for the meeting.
  • We have had several pre-disciplinary hearings through the first half of the month of September.  Several of those investigations will be coming to a close soon.
  • We held our DOC summer BBQ at WSP on August 13 from 10-4pm in Pioneer Park.  At the event, we discussed our new contract and debriefed the legislative session in Olympia.

  • On August 25, we had a step 1 grievance meeting over seniority issues involving CC2s and CC3s, which will now be moved to Grievance Review Panel.
