(Seattle, WA) – Teamsters Local 117 will join a coalition of consumer and labor rights groups in a leafleting action this weekend at six Seattle-area Whole Foods stores in a coordinated effort to hold the supermarket chain accountable for its refusal to denounce child labor in its supply chain. Leafleting will also take place at Whole Foods stores in several other states.
Organizers will hold a training on Saturday, September 22 at 9:30 AM and on Sunday, September 23, at 11:30 AM at the Teamsters Building in Tukwila. Leafleting will start at 12:30 PM on both Saturday and Sunday at all six Seattle-area Whole Foods locations.
The Organic Consumers Association, the International Labor Rights Forum, Global Exchange and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters are demanding that Whole Foods and its supplier United Natural Foods, Inc. join a growing coalition of grocery stores urging Hershey’s to fully commit to using ethically-sourced chocolate produced under fair-labor standards.
